04.26.07 | End of the Semester Thoughts
Hello everyone! This semester's coming to close and I do say it's been a eventful semester. From establishing ECOalition to hearing the news that President Shelton will sign the ACU President's Climate Commitment, you've all worked hard to put on events (Step It Up 2007 Solar Rock and UA Earth Day) and make our efforts successful.

03.31.07 | Sam Hughes Elementary Water Harvesting
This weekend, members from ECOalition went to Sam Hughes Elementary School on Wilson Avenue. They didn't go there to attend class though. Being all grown up and stuff, they were there to teach. Emilie, Richard, Leona, David, Kaolin, and other students from the Water Harvesting Course (offered every spring) met with SH Elementary kiddies and their parents to plant Palo Verde trees and implement water harvesting techniques. To see the photos, go to our flickr page.

03.03.07 | Stone Curves Cistern Workshop (part 1)
Hazel and I attended the Stone Curves Cistern Workshop. The first week's workshop taught us how to install a cistern properly. The next, and final, week's workshop will teach us how to build effective earthworks. The workshop was led by Kevin from Technicians for Sustainability. The Stone Curves Living Communitee was an amazing place, with teatherball, public hammocks, and a mess hall. One of the units is for sale. Contact me if interested. Photos from the workshop are online, here.

03.02.07 | ECOalition Identity Meeting
Casey, Mike, and I met Friday night to start the task of establishing ECOalition's identity. The first issue addressed was crystalizing what ECOalition is about. We concluded that ECOalition is a hub (a homebase) for UA students who want to be involved in environmental activities in campus. ECOalition is a coalition of clubs. Those clubs have theor own directives and may have members that cross over between clubs. ECOalition will emphasize the connection between Environmental clubs and the general UA population in the form of increasing environmental degredation awreness, ways to take action on campus, and personal living tips for a more sustainable life.
